Extra Credit: I wish I was musically talented
I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano or guitar. I have also wanted to be able to be good at singing. I know that these things can be possible with practice and getting lessons, but my parents never got me lessons. I was told to learn it on my own. I am not very good at teaching myself how to do things and whenever I have to do something myself, it seems to never get done until later. I wanted to learn how to play the piano when I was in elementary school because I thought that the singer Vanessa Carlton was the best, and I wanted to be just like her. Also, my best friend in elementary school was getting lessons to learn how to play, and you know at that age you want to be just like your friends. I really just wanted to be Vanessa Carlton especially because of the music video for A Thousand Miles where she is playing the piano, which inspired me to be like her. Well, I asked my parents for lessons, but they said that we didn't own a piano and wouldn't buy one, so I wouldn't be able to practice. That plan kind of failed. When I got older, I was obsessed with Avril Lavigne, and Green Day. I really wanted to learn how to play the guitar because of them. I thought I could be a rockstar and be just as cool as they were. I asked for a guitar for Christmas, and I got an acoustic guitar, but I really wanted an electric guitar. Well that didn't happen. My parents told me to learn how to play the acoustic by myself and if I could teach myself to play that that they would buy me an electric guitar. Well, I sat down for like a week or two trying to figure it out, but I kind of gave up because it was too much work and I would just get frustrated. I forgot about the whole guitar thing because I was too busy hanging out with friends. I wanted to learn how to sing because I was in choir in 6th grade and thought that I could be really good. I stopped doing choir after that and my parents didn't want to pay for singing lessons. So I was musically deprived of trying to become talented in those areas. It's okay though, because I just gained a greater appreciation for those who actually play an instrument or can sing.

I completely understand where you are coming from! My parents said that to me about the violin when I was little. Luckily though, my mom loved the piano so at least I can do that but I wish I could sing like Vanessa Carlton too!
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm not musically talented at all, but it seems like half of the people at BYU are
ReplyDeleteI can completely relate. I absolutely love listening to music (especially classical), but I can't carry a tune, and I can't play any instruments to any degree except possibly the piano. With the piano, I can basically play the melody of non-difficult hymns, and that's it. It would be amazing to sing or play well, but I'm also happy to listen.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to learn to play the piano....
ReplyDeleteSame...my family is so artistic/musical except me
